Frequently Asked Questions

  • If you’re traveling from the US: The nearest airports are either Munich (MUC) or Verona (VRN). From there, we recommend renting a car for the drive to Lake Garda.

From Munich, the drive to Lake Garda takes about 5 hours – you'll travel through the Alps and wine regions; the drive is beautiful and definitely worth it. It is also an option to stay in Munich for 1-2 nights and explore the city (so worth it!!) and then get a rental car to drive down to Italy.

From Verona Airport, the drive takes only about 20 minutes.

If you’re traveling from Germany: You can easily and quickly reach Lake Garda via the Brenner Pass. From Munich, it takes approximately 5 hours.

  • Totally depends!

However, we would definitely recommend arriving a few days before the wedding to combat jet lag and be ready for the party of your (and our) lives 🤍

If you'd like to explore Munich before the wedding, we recommend flying to Munich, spending 1-2 days there, and then driving to Italy from there.

If you'd like to spend a few days in Italy after the wedding (we've put together some possible itineraries for you here), then flying to Verona is a good option!

  • Yes, renting a car is definitely recommended.
The Lake Garda region in general, and also the location of the wedding, is rather rural. There are no buses or taxis to the venue.

However, there will be a shuttle service between the recommended hotels and the venue on the wedding day.

  • Yes, there is ample parking available at the venue.

However, there will be a shuttle service to select hotels near the venue. This way, you can enjoy the day with us and perhaps have a glass of wine or two 🍷

  • If you're traveling from the USA: To ensure you've overcome jet lag by the wedding and aren't exhausted at odd hours of the day, we recommend arriving 2-4 days in advance.

If you're traveling from Germany: Even though the ceremony on Saturday doesn't start until later in the day, we recommend arriving on Friday. You never know what the traffic will be like on the Brenner Pass, and this way you can enjoy a relaxed Saturday! There will also be a small get-together on Friday evening where everyone can get to know each other and we’d love to have you there!

  • To get from Germany to Lake Garda, you drive through Austria – a vignette is required for this. You'll also need to pay tolls for the drive into Italy.

Both can be easily purchased and paid for online here (this way you won't need a sticker on your windshield and you won't have to wait in line at the toll booths; you can simply drive through the toll stations):

    https://shop.asfinag.at/en/toll-products

Add the following to your shopping cart:

    - Digital Vignette for 10 days (10 days is cheaper than, for example, two 1-day vignettes for a round trip)

    - Digital section toll for the A13 Brenner Autobahn (two trips for a round trip)

  • US citizens generally do not require a visa for stays of 90 days or less.

However, the new ETIAS system is likely to be introduced at the end of 2026. US citizens will then be required to apply for ETIAS authorization online before entering the US (similar to ESTA).

Please note that your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure date.

Schedule

  • You're traveling from Germany: In Italy, most sockets are type L (sometimes type C). Many German devices with a two-prong plug (type C) will fit without any problems.

However, larger plugs (e.g., laptops, hair dryers, straighteners, curling irons) may not fit all sockets. We therefore recommend bringing a travel adapter from type F to type L – better safe than sorry!

You're traveling from the USA: Yes, absolutely! Italy uses type L (and sometimes type C) sockets, and the voltage is 230 volts.

The USA uses type A/B sockets and 110 volts, so American plugs don't fit directly into Italian sockets.

You'll need a travel adapter from type A/B to type L.

Please also check whether your devices are suitable for 230 volts ("Dual Voltage" is usually indicated on the charger).

Many modern devices like smartphones and laptops work without any problems, but older hair dryers or razors often don't.

  • Yes, absolutely! Tap water in Italy is safe and drinkable. In many regions, it simply has a slightly different taste than you are used to. So, if you like, you can easily refill your water bottles at the tap.

Most accommodations also often offer drinks for purchase, or you can stock up on water at the supermarket.

  • Italy, like Germany, uses the euro (€). Credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, and shops, but cash can be useful for smaller amounts.

Please note that American Express Credit Cards may not be accepted at some places - fees are simply too high for most family owned stores and restaurants. Regular debit cards can usually be used without problems though.

Cash can usually be withdrawn from ATMs using a standard debit card. Therefore, exchanging money beforehand is not necessary.
